Why I built Heddle
When my son was born, I wanted to create a sampler for his nursery. But I couldn't find one I liked. There wasn't a tool available that let me create my own so I have built that instead. My son's sampler is the first design I'm making with Heddle.
Empowering Stitchers to make their own designs
Most tools I found, starts with an empty grid and asks you to fill it in one stitch at a time, or to convert a photo. That's very useful sometimes (and it is something you can do with Heddle). But it's a clumsy one for a sampler, which is built from borders, alphabets, verses, and small repeated motifs.
About me
I'm Cicely. An enthusiastic cross stitcher and coder. Although sadly, I'd rate myself a better developer than stitcher. Heddle started because the tools I found didn't match how I actually think about samplers.
Where things stand currently
Heddle is early, and it's just me building it. The canvas, alphabet tool, floss list, PDF export, and accounts all work. The library is a small starter set I'm growing by hand, and sourcing more commercially cleared motifs is the main work ahead of me right now. Photo-to-pattern conversion now works too, so you can turn your own photo into a pattern and place it on the canvas.
I'd rather tell you that plainly than oversell it. If something's missing that would make Heddle useful to you, I want to hear about it — get in touch, it comes straight to me.
