I'm building the sampler tool I wanted to use.
Heddle composes a sampler from motifs, borders, alphabets and monograms. Drag them onto a grid, and the chart and floss list stay in sync as you arrange. Upload your own images or draw your own motifs, so you're not limited to what's in the library.
I'm building this on my own, so here's where things stand: the motif library is still small and I'm growing it by hand, a few pieces at a time. Everything you make is yours to stitch. Try it, and tell me what's missing.

Samplers are made of parts. So is Heddle.
A sampler is built from borders, alphabets, and small motifs, repeated and combined, so that's where Heddle starts. Pick a border, add your lettering, and place motifs wherever they belong. Bring your own drawings or photos and they become parts too, ready to place, resize and reuse.
Motifs you can move
Drag a motif onto the canvas, resize it in whole stitches, flip it, recolor it, restack it. You're arranging pieces, not drawing every stitch by hand, unless you want to.
More than cross stitch
Half stitches, beads, French knots, and backstitch are built in, in library motifs and borders and with their own tools on the canvas, for the shading and outlines a sampler needs beyond a plain grid of crosses.
Transparent licensing
Every piece in the library says plainly whether it's for personal use or cleared for patterns you sell, when you place it.
A floss list that keeps up with you
Every DMC color and its stitch count updates live as you build, so you're not counting by hand at the end and the total is never a surprise.
