Notes
Heddle's autumn collection isn't only leaves. Autumn in England is also about what the trees give us, and for me that means apples. I used to have my own apple tree, and it always produced the reddest, sweetest fruit. Each year I took the best of the crop to the village show, and it won first prize more often than not. Apples are woven into the English autumn: orchards, windfalls in the long grass, crumbles cooling on the side, and harvest festivals and village shows. The smell of fermenting apples that have fallen off the tree.
